Remote monitoring of implantable cardiac devices
Who is the patient population?
The population include patients with an implanted ICD (implantable cardiac defibrillator) or pacemaker.
What characterises the interventions?
- The study will be an observational study
- Length of the study follow-up for each patient will be of 12 months
- Remote monitoring and transmission of device data (Clinical and technical)
- Collect important clinical data in a large number of patients
- Optimization clinical efficacy (Early detection of clinical or technical adverse events )
- Optimization of medical services (Lower level of health resource utilization for cardiology departments reducing hospital accesses)
- Study the needs of the clinician and the patient's perception towards the service.
- Reduce burden to patients
- Understand which organization would allow a wide distribution of remote monitoring service
- Calculate the economic feasibility
What are the expected results at cluster level?
The result will calculate the overall effects within all aspects of MAST. Also, it will investigate causes for possible differences between different cardiology departments involved; thus provides valuable knowledge and documentation to assess new organisational model that will enable to capitalise on the potential of the new technology, to improve clinical benefits and reduce time spent, personnel and space resources, and consequent reduction of costs.
Finally, the assessment of the telemedicine services with a rigorous methodology as MAST, is expected to provide evidences to be used as a basis for decision making in the European Countries on implementation and on use of remote monitoring system for patients with an implanted cardiac device; the resulting evidence can be useful also for the European prototypes of home monitoring services to became Large Scale Pilot.
